    Vidyasagar was a great multi-talented social reformer and educationist. 

    He was born on 26th Sep in 1820 at Birsingha village of Medinipur district in Bengal. He was born in an orthodox Brahmin family. 

    His father's name was Thakurdas Bandopadhyay and his mother's name was Bhagwati Devi.

    He started his primary education at the village Pathshala. 

    Then he graduated from Sanskrit College of Kolkata. Because of his extraordinary talent he was honoured the title of "Vidyasagar". 

    The word 'Vidyasagar' means "ocean of knowledge and wisdom." Vidyasagar worked as school Inspector. 

    Then Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar became the principal of the Sanskrit College. He took the most important role in women education in Bengal.

    Vidyasagar was a kind hearted man. 
    He always helped poor and the sick.

    He supported widow marriage and the Widow Remarriage Bill was pass in 1856. 

    Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar wrote several books such as Bornoporichoy, Banglar Itiihas, Sitar Banabas, Katha mala etc.

    Mother Teresa was a great humanist who dedicated her life for the cause of suffering humanity.

    She was born in Albania on August 2, 1910. She completed her school education in a Government School in Yugoslavia.

    After completing her education she decided to become a nun and so she joined a Roman Catholic Mission which sent her to Kolkata in 1928.

    While engaged in her Missionary work she was deeply moved by the agonies and miseries of the poor of this country.

    She started her life in Kolkata as a teacher in a convent school, but soon she realized that the mission of her life should be to dedicate herself to the service of suffering people.

    So she started an organisation, Nirmal Hriday, at Kalighat which became a shelter for the suffering people.

    Destitutes, lepers, orphans and even persons dying uncared on the pavements of the city are sheltered there. Mother Teresa led a very simple and modest life.

    She talked a little but did a lot and the compass of her vision was global. Though she avoided all kinds of publicity, Mother was famous all over the world for her activities.

    In recognition of her selfless service , she was Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. She became a Bharat Ratna in 1980.

    On September 5, 1997, the 87- yearold nun left for her heavenly abode. 

     The poor, the downtrodden, the destitutes around the world became poorer and orphan.

    Swami Vivekananda
    Swami Vivekananda was a great social reformer and pioneer of the national movement of modern India. His earlier name was Narendranath Datta.

    He was born in Kolkata on 12th January, 1863. His father, Biswanath Datta was an attorney at Kolkata High Court.

    From his school life Narendranath was a meritorious student. He was a student of Metropolitan Institution from where he passed the Matriculation Examination in 1879.

    He passed the F.A. examination in 1881 and the 13.A. in 1884 from the Scottish Church College.

    From his student life he had a great curiosity for knowing God and that was satisfied when he met the great religious teacher, Sri Ramakrishna, in 1886.

    The meeting was a turning point in his life. He became a Sannyasi and became known as Swami Vivekananda.

    After the death of his 'guru', Vivekananda set out touring all over India. The misery and illiteracy of the masses touched him deeply.

    In 1895, he attended the Religious Parliament at Chicago and delivered a momentous speech upholding the greatness of the Hindu Religion.

     After his tour in Europe he came back to India and established Ramakrishna Mission in 1897 and BeFur Math in 1898.

    Though Vivekananda passed away in 1902 at the age of 39, he influenced and still influences powerfully the minds of many in India.

    Kshudiram was born at Midnapore on 3rd December, 1889. He lost his parents when only 6 or school 7 years old and so he was brought up by his elder sister Aparna Devi.

    He had his school  education from Tamluk Hamilton High School and Midnapore Collegiate School.

    From his boyhood Kshudiram was very much courageous. He gave up studies to  join the Swadeshi Movement at the age of 16.

    He was actively involved in the the different  activities of National Freedom Movement.

    He organised a plot, in collaboration with Prafulla Chaki, to kill Kingsford, the Chief Presidency Magistrate, for avenging the harsh sentences Passed by him against nationalist patriots in Kolkata .

    The two boys threw bomb at Kingsford's  carriage which happenedto be carrying a European lady , Mrs. Kenedy, and her daughter, Both of them were killed by mistake.

    Kshudiram was then arrested and tried for murder. He was sentenced to death. The great patriot died on the gallows on August 11, 1908.
